Omar S. Es-Said(Biography)
Omar S. Es-Said is a professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. He was hired as an assistant professor from 1985-1992, associate professor from 1992-1998, and full professor from 1998-present. He received his B.S. degree in physics and his M.S. degree in solid state physics from The American University in Cairo. He received his PhD in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from the University of Kentucky, Lexington in 1985. His current research interests include metallic processing, modeling, experimental, techniques, and failure analysis. He published over 300 papers, which included refereed journal articles, conference proceedings, industrial reports, and Department of Defense (DoD) reports. He has been an associate editor from 2008-present for the American Society of Materials’ (ASM) Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance (JMEP). He has been a key reader for the Metallurgical Transactions A Journal from 2004-present. He has been on the editorial board of the Engineering Failure Analysis Journal from 2003-present. He received several awards: The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), Teetor Award in 1994, until the Elmer L. Hann Award from The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers in 2011. He received several grants for research funds and research equipment from the National Science Foundation (NSF), NASA, Boeing Cooperation, and the Navy for a total of over $3.4 million dollars. He was a consultant for the Navy from 1994-present. He was hired as a Distinguished Summer Faculty Fellow at The Navy Facilities Engineering Services Center (NFESC) in the summers of 2010-2017. He became an American Society of Materials (ASM) Fellow in 2005. He was an invited speaker in many conferences and universities including: Cambridge University, The American University in Cairo, and Paris 8 University. He was an invited key-note speaker for several International Conferences.

In particular, they are examining environmental management under uncertainty, and energy systems planning under changing climatic conditions.

Dr. Osman Adiguzel graduated from Department of Physics, Ankara University, Turkey in 1974 and received PhD- degree from Dicle University, Diyarbakir-Turkey in Solid State Physics. He studied at Surrey University, Guildford, UK, as a post doctoral research scientist in 1986-1987, and his studies focused on shape memory alloys. He worked as research assistant, 1975-80, at Dicle University, Diyarbakir, Turkey. He shifted to Firat University in 1980, and became professor in 1996, and He has already been working as professor. He published over 50 papers in international and national journals; He joined over 100 conferences and symposia in international and national level as participant, invited speaker or keynote speaker with contributions of oral or poster. He served the program chair or conference chair/co-chair in some of these activities. LI, Shuguang, Professor of Aerospace Composites, is a part of the Institute for Aerospace Technology, Faculty of Engineering, University of Nottingham, UK. He was awarded BEng and MEng from NUAA in 1982 and 1984, respectively. His first academic career was at NUAA between 1984 and1988 as a lecturer. He then obtained his PhD from University of Manchester in 1993. He returned back to his academic track as a lecturer at the University of Manchester in 1995. He was appointed to his present position in June 2012. Professor Li was on the advisory board of the 2nd World Wide Failure Exercise for polymer composites (on 3D failure theories). He is one of the organisors of the 3rd Exercise of the same (on damage theories). The outcomes are being published in Journal of Composite Materials

Professor Li is on the editorial board of International Journal of Mechanical Sciences. He is a visiting professor of NUAA and Zhejiang University. He has published over 150 academic papers, more than half of them in high impact international journals. His main research interest is in the area of analysis of composite materials and structures, in particular, on subjects of damage, failure, micromechanics and characterisation in recent years. As an outcome of his research on micromechanics of composites, a piece of software called UnitCells© has been commercialised which offers material scientists and structural designers a useful tool for the characterisation of composites in terms of effective elastic properties as well as strength properties. Professor Li has also a longstanding interest in nonlinear finite element analysis and structural buckling.

G.Q. Chen is a professor of systems ecology and sustainability science at Peking University, China and a Distinguished Adjunct Professor at King Abudulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. Helmi Attia is manager of advanced material removal processes, aerospace manufacturing, National Research Council Canada (NRC), and adjunct professor of Mechanical Engineering, McGill University. Before joining the NRC in 2002, Attia was principal research engineer, Ontario Hydro Technologies, and manager of fabrication technology, Spar Aerospace Technology Ltd. He has also been adjunct professor of mechanical engineering with Concordia and McMaster Universities, Canada (1980-2005). Helmi is professional engineer of Ontario, and Fellow of the College International pour la Recherche en Productique (FCIRP), Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (FASME) and Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (FSME). He is the recipient of Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2013) and the ASME Blackall Machine Tools and Gage Award (1989). He is the recipient of numerous recognitions from ASME and ASTM for being the principal organizer and editor of symposia related to manufacturing and tribology. He is on the editorial board of a number of international journals. Attia served as the chairman of the ASTM Task Group on Fretting Fatigue, and liaison officer of the ASME Production Engineering and Tribology Divisions (1990-96). To his credit, Attia has authored/coauthored more than 250 papers in archival journals and refereed conference proceedings, and more than 130 technical research reports.

Dr. Jun Ni is the Shien-Ming (Sam) Wu Collegiate Professor of Manufacturing Science and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, USA. He served as the founding Dean of the University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute located in Shanghai, China since 2006. He is also the director of the Wu Manufacturing Research Center and the co-director of a National Science Foundation sponsored Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Intelligent Maintenance Systems at the University of Michigan. Professor Ni is also the founder of Advanced Intelligent Maintenance Systems (AIMS), Ltd. in Hongzhou, China. Professor Ni has published over 450 technical papers, and supervised 90 PhD graduates and 65 MS graduates. Professor Ni has been invited to serve as a guest/advisory professor at many institutions, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tsinghua University, Xi’an Jiao Tong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, and 10 other institutions. He served in the International Expert Advisory Board of the Ministry of Science and Technology of PRC to consult for the strategic planning in advanced manufacturing. He served as a consultant for Korea Institution of Materials and Machinery, and South African’s Department of Science and Technology’s Advanced Production Roadmap. He served as a member of the External Advisory Board at Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute and as a member of the International Advisory Board of the State of Michigan. He served as a Vice Chairman of Global Agenda Council on Advanced Manufacturing at the World Economic Forum since 2010 and is very active in various national and international studies of policy recommendations for advancing manufacturing competitiveness globally.

Prof. Gadow who was born in 1955 in Riegelsberg/Saar (Germany) studied chemistry with focus on technical chemistry of solids at the University of Karlsruhe. He graduated in 1981 from the Institute of Technical Chemistry having specialized in the fields of protective layers for high temperature application and carbon fiber composites. Prof. Gadow continued to work on his dissertation in the department of chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe as research scientist and assistant of the institute's director Prof. Dr. Erich Fitzer until his Ph.D. graduation in 1986. Prof. Gadow dismissed his planned habilitation in Karlsruhe in the field of intermetallic phases for new structural materials since he joined W. Haldenwanger Technische Keramik GmbH u. Co KG in Berlin and Waldkraiburg as head of the R&D department in 1986. In 1990, the largest and most advanced high temperature vacuum furnace in Germany was put into operation for the production of silicon carbide ceramics, Dr. Gadow joined the Deutsche Babcock-Borsig AG, Berlin in 1990 as head of the department of materials engineering and new technology. In December 1991, Gadow was appointed excecutive manager of the Euroflamm Ltd. in Bremen after the materials engineering center in Berlin was incorporated in the Balcke-Dürr AG, Ratingen. Due to this new responsibility, Dr.Gadow's main interests shifted to surface engineering and technology for fabrication and finishing of components with ceramic and metallurgical surfaces. In October 1993 he was additionally appointed excecutive director of the Balcke-Dürr Oberflächentechnik in Ratingen. From November 1994 until his start as full professor in Stuttgart he was also director of the BDAG Oberflächentechnik Ltd. Prof. Rainer Gadow has started his position as full professor and director of the Institute for Manufacturing Technologies of Ceramic Components and Composites (IMTCCC) at the University of Stuttgart in March 1995. 2014 Prof. Gadow was appointed Dean of the Faculty Mechanical, Production and Automotive Engineering of the University of Stuttgart.

From 1999 to 2003 he was a Research Fellow at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Salerno. He is "Visiting Researcher" at the Wessex Institute of Technology (WIT), Southampton (UK) in 1996, at the Queen Mary and Westfield College in London (UK), in 1998 and in 2000 under the supervision of professor MH Aliabadi, for a theoretical study of the Boundary Element Method.
